Starting off as a humble machine maintenance man, it can be argued that Gunpei Yokoi put Nintendo on the map. This Japanese electronic whiz kid was one of Donkey Kong's fathers. Mario Bros. are his kids too. And Game Boy was certainly his favorite son. On October 4, 1997 Yokoi was involved in a car accident. He got out of his car to check out the damage and was hit and fatally injured by two passing cars. Urban legend has claimed foul play.
